CONSTRUCTION COMPLETE

 FOR MAJOR EXPANSION AT

 THE WASHINGTON HOSPITAL

The Washington Hospital has completed the largest building expansion project in its nearly 110 year history.   The Hospital began to use facilities in the new addition, including its new Emergency Department in March 2009.  Construction is now shifting to the renovation of select adjacent spaces in the existing building.  VEBH Architects is serving as the lead Architect for the project.

Major components of the expansion project include a new Emergency Department with 32 exam / treatment suites; a new 18-bed Critical Care Unit; a 26-bed monitored Medical / Surgical Unit; and four new Operating Rooms with additional support and recovery (PACU) space.  The project includes new parking areas for the Hospital and the relocation of a city street to facilitate the Hospital’s growth.

The project includes approximately 200,000 square feet of new and renovated space.

VEBH Architects worked with Cannon Design of Buffalo to design the expansion.

The Washington Hospital serves Washington and Greene Counties in Southwestern Pennsylvania with a more than 265-bed main Hospital in Washington, PA.  The Hospital also operates an eight-bed residential hospice, Donnell House, designed by VEBH Architects and opened in 2002.  (back)
