MONONGAHELA VALLEY HOSPITAL

OPENS EXPANDED EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Construction is complete in the multi-phase Emergency Department expansion project at Monongahela Valley Hospital.

The design for the expanded Emergency Department doubled the number of treatment / exam rooms to 24 by adding more than 11,000 sq. ft. of space to the Department. 12 existing exam / treatment rooms were renovated and enlarged in the project; 12 new rooms were created in space that was vacated by relocating the Cardiology Department and the Hospital Laboratory.

The design includes two nurse stations, located to provide efficient access to the patient treatment rooms and the expanded storage and support spaces.

The Hospital is utilizing a patient tracking system that was installed during construction. The system monitors the progress of patients through the Department and records their interaction with staff and equipment.

Sliding doors on each of the exam / treatment rooms ‘break away’ to allow the efficient movement of patient beds and equipment. The glass doors enhance patient privacy while maintaining visibility into the rooms.

A spacious new family-friendly waiting room is contained in an addition to the Hospital. Within the waiting area are two unique spaces; a children's play room and a cafe-style food vending area. A glass partition separates these spaces from the main seating area.

Construction was completed in four separate phases while the Emergency Department continued to function and serve patients. (back)
